WAYNE WYMAN
Wyman's stage direction was full of adept, carefully observed
details and was unerringly funny...”, Mike Greenberg, San
Antonio Express News
Wayne Wyman’s artistic vision and strategy guided Lyric Opera
of San Antonio as it grew in six seasons from a $6000 start up
to a respected regional company. During Wyman's tenure as
Artistic Director, Lyric Opera of San Antonio produced three
operas per season. Wyman also maintained a visible
presence in the community as a public speaker and through
frequent interviews on radio and television.
Trained as a symphonic conductor, Wyman is equally at home
in the orchestral and operatic repertoires. Recently Wyman has
become involved in the New Music scene in Austin, Texas
where he conducted the premieres of Graham Reynold's and
Peter Stopchinski's Second Symphonies, which were
subsequently broadcast on Austin Public Radio. Audiences,
critics and a prominent Berlioz scholar praised Wyman’s
conducting of Berlioz’s gem Béatrice et Bénédict, during his
training at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. The production
received the National Opera Association First Prize.
As Artistic Director of San Antonio Lyric Opera, Wayne Wyman
also received acclaim for stage directing many of the
productions. Mike Greenberg of the San Antonio Express-News
says "Wayne Wyman was both conductor and stage director
and the dual role yielded clear benefits in details of movement
that were tied closely to the phrasing of the music."
Mr. Wyman's directing credits include University of Texas, where
he directed productions of Die Zauberflöte, Così fan tutte, Albert
Herring and The Mikado among others, Opera Plus in Coeur
d'Alene, Idaho, Gold Coast Opera and Lyric Opera of San
Antonio.
